1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using String ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the Service. These Terms incorporate by reference our Privacy Policy, our Request and Dispute Policy, our DMCA Policy, and, where applicable to you, the Artist Agreement.
2. Description of Service
String is a live music request platform that connects fans with performing artists at live venues. Fans scan a QR code to access an artist's song menu, submit song requests, and pay for those requests through a web-based interface. Artists receive payments directly and manage their live queue in real time. No app download is required for fans. The Service is not a music-streaming service, a ticketing service, or a recording-rights licensor. String facilitates payment between fans and artists; it does not deliver, perform, or license recorded music itself.
3. Eligibility
To use the Service, you must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract and must not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable law or these Terms. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you satisfy each of the foregoing. Age requirements are set out in Section 4.
4. Age Requirement
Artists must be 18 or older. You must be at least 18 years of age to create or hold a String artist account. Artist accounts receive payments, and String cannot enter a payment relationship with a minor. We collect your date of birth at signup to confirm this, and you represent that the date you provide is accurate.
Artists who connect a bank account additionally complete identity verification through Stripe, which independently requires account holders to be 18 or older.
If we learn that an artist account is held by someone under 18, we will suspend the account and may withhold or reverse any pending payouts.
Fans must be 18 or older. Requesting a song does not require an account, and a fan who simply scans a code and pays is not subject to an age requirement. But creating a String fan account does: you must be at least 18 years of age, and we collect your date of birth at signup to confirm it. If we learn that an account is held by someone under 18, we will delete it and the information associated with it.
5. User Accounts
Artists must create an account to use the Service. Artists are responsible for maintaining the security of their account credentials and for all activity that occurs under their account. Fans may use the Service without creating an account. Fans provide a display name at the time of each request and may optionally provide contact information. You agree to provide accurate information when using the Service.
6. Payments
Song requests require payment before being submitted to the artist. All requests are subject to artist approval and may be accepted or declined at the artist's sole discretion. The fan pays the song price set by the artist plus a String platform fee. The platform fee varies with the song price and is always shown to you in full, as part of your total, before you confirm payment. The total shown at checkout is the controlling amount.
How and when you are charged. When you submit a request, your payment method is authorized for the total, and the payment is collected a few seconds later, once your request has been recorded and placed in the queue. It is not held until the song is performed: a request that is later declined or never performed has already been paid for. If your request cannot be recorded (for example, because the show ended while you were checking out), the authorization is cancelled and you are not charged. The timing of that release is determined by your card issuer and not by String.
The artist receives 100% of the song price via Stripe Connect. The platform fee is retained by String and is charged to the fan in addition to the artist's price; it is never deducted from what the artist receives. Boosts and shoutouts follow the same structure. All amounts are in United States dollars.
All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. through Stripe Connect. By submitting payment information, you also agree to the Stripe Services Agreement. You are solely responsible for any taxes associated with your use of the Service to the extent applicable to you.
7. Submitting Requests; No Guarantee of Performance
When you submit a song request, boost, or shoutout, you are paying for the opportunity for the artist to play your selected song or receive your shoutout. You acknowledge and agree that:
- The artist retains complete and final discretion over what is performed or acknowledged;
- The artist may decline any request for any reason, including time constraints, content concerns, technical limitations, or personal preference;
- A request appearing in the queue does not guarantee that it will be performed;
- The order of the queue may change in response to additional requests, boosts, the artist's curation, time remaining in the show, or technical considerations; and
- A boost increases the priority of a request relative to others but does not guarantee performance.
8. What You Are Paying For; No Refunds
You are paying for delivery of your selection to the artist and its place in the queue. You are not paying for a guaranteed performance of any specific song.
One payment covers one request. If the artist declines your request, that decision is final: no replacement selection is offered, and no refund is issued.
No refunds. Once a payment is collected it is final and non-refundable, whether or not the requested song was performed. The platform fee is non-refundable in all cases, as it covers platform and payment processing costs already incurred. Refunds are limited to documented platform errors, such as a duplicate charge or a technical failure that kept your request from reaching the queue, as described in the Request and Dispute Policy.
Disputing a transaction with your card issuer without first contacting support@stringmusic.live may result in suspension of your access to the Service.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purpose, to harass or abuse other users, to submit fraudulent payment information, to interfere with the operation of the Service, or to attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the platform. You also agree not to submit requests, names, messages, or other content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, obscene, sexually explicit, or discriminatory, that infringes any third party's rights, that impersonates any person or entity, or that discloses another person's personal information without their consent. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
10. Your Content and Public Visibility
Requests are public inside the room. Song requests, boosts, and the optional name attached to a request are designed to be visible to the artist, venue staff, and other patrons during the show, including on a TV or crowd-display screen. If you do not wish to be identified, do not submit a name with your request.
When you submit a request, boost, shoutout message, name, or other content ("User Content"), you grant String a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, modify, and create derivative works of that User Content for the purposes of operating, promoting, and improving the Service.
You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to all User Content you submit, that it does not violate these Terms or applicable law, and that submitting it does not require any third-party consent you have not obtained.
11. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, trademarks, logos, copy, and curated content, is owned by String or its licensors and is protected by United States and international intellectual-property laws. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, String grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to access and use the Service solely for the purposes described here. Artists retain ownership of their song titles, likenesses, and any content they upload.
"String," the String logomark, and related names and marks are trademarks of String Music, LLC. You may not use them without prior written consent except as expressly permitted by these Terms.
Song titles and artist names referenced on the Service are used for informational and identification purposes. The Service does not stream, deliver, or license recorded music. Performance and reproduction rights are the responsibility of the performing artist or the venue, as applicable.
12. DMCA and Copyright
The Service is intended to be used in connection with live performances. String complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA") and maintains a notice-and-takedown procedure for any content it hosts. Our DMCA Policy, including instructions for submitting a notice of alleged infringement and the contact information for our designated agent, is incorporated by reference. 13. Privacy
Our collection, use, and disclosure of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described there.
14. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on and integrates with third-party services, including Stripe (payment processing), Supabase (data storage and authentication), the iTunes Search API (song catalog metadata), and Vercel (hosting). Your use of those underlying services is governed by their respective terms. String is not responsible for the acts or omissions of any third-party service.
15. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STRING DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY ARISING OUT OF COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE. STRING DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE FROM HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT ANY REQUEST WILL BE PERFORMED.
16. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL STRING, ITS AFFILIATES, OR ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT STRING HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
IN NO EVENT WILL THE AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF STRING ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE EXCEED THE GREATER OF (a) THE TOTAL AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO STRING (EXCLUDING AMOUNTS PAID TO ARTISTS) IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE LIABILITY, OR (b) ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
17. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless String, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in connection with: (a) your access to or use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your User Content; or (d) your violation of any third-party right, including any intellectual-property right or privacy right.
18. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including a violation of these Terms. Upon termination, the rights granted to you under these Terms will cease, but the provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 19, and 22.
19. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
Governing law. These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
Informal resolution. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact String at legal@stringmusic.live with a written description of the dispute and to attempt in good faith to resolve it informally for at least thirty (30) days.
Binding arbitration. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be finally resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") in accordance with its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted by a single arbitrator and will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, or, at your election if you are a fan, by telephone or videoconference. Judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class-action waiver. YOU AND STRING EACH AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE WILL BE RESOLVED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. THE ARBITRATOR MAY NOT CONSOLIDATE MORE THAN ONE PERSON'S CLAIMS.
Your right to opt out. You may opt out of the arbitration and class-action-waiver provisions above by sending written notice to legal@stringmusic.live within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.
Carve-out. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may bring (a) an individual action in small-claims court, or (b) an action seeking injunctive or equitable relief for the alleged unlawful use of intellectual property.
20. SMS & Text Messaging
Transactional messages. By providing your phone number when submitting a song request, you consent to receive automated text messages from String relating to that request, for example confirmation and approval or decline updates. These messages are part of the Service you asked for.
Marketing messages (optional). If you separately opt in, you also consent to receive recurring automated marketing messages from String and its partners, such as offers, event announcements, and updates. Marketing consent is optional and is not a condition of submitting a request or of any purchase.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe from further automated texts, or HELP for help. You may also opt out by emailing support@stringmusic.live. Message delivery is subject to your carrier and is not guaranteed; carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
21. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms of Service at any time by posting an updated version on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the terms were last revised. If we make a material change, we will notify you by reasonable means, which may include notifying you in-product. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
22. Miscellaneous
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with any audience-specific agreement (the Artist Agreement or Partner Agreement, as applicable) and the policies referenced here, constitute the entire agreement between you and String regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject matter.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms otherwise remain in full force and effect.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be deemed a waiver of that right or provision.
Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms, by operation of law or otherwise, without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, or to an affiliate, without notice. Any attempted assignment in violation of this provision is void.
Force majeure. String will not be liable for any failure or delay in performance to the extent caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disasters, labor disputes, internet or power outages, governmental orders, pandemics, or third-party service failures.
