Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we process about fans who use the Service to submit song requests, boosts, or shoutouts; artists and venues that use the Service to receive requests and accept payment; visitors to our marketing pages; and partners, vendors, and others who interact with us in a business capacity.
2. Information We Collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you use String:
Fan users: When you submit a song request, we collect your display name (required) and, optionally, your email address or phone number if you choose to provide them. We do not require fans to create an account. Payment information (such as credit card details) is collected and processed securely by Stripe — we do not store your full payment details on our servers.
Artist users: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and account credentials. If you connect a Stripe account for payments, Stripe collects additional identity and financial information as required by their platform.
Usage data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages visited, device type, browser type, and general location data. This information is used to improve the Service and is not tied to individual fan identities unless an account exists.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process song request payments and deliver them to artists
- Display your name in the live request queue
- Send you notifications about your request status (if you provided contact information)
- Send you alerts about future shows from artists you follow (if you opted in)
- Improve and maintain the Service
- Generate aggregate analytics for artists and venues (no individual fan data is shared with venues without consent)
We will never sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Public Visibility of Requests
The Service is designed to display certain information publicly during a show. The first name or chosen display name you attach to a request, the song you requested, and the amount paid may be displayed on the artist's queue, on a TV or crowd-display screen, and to other patrons in the room.
Shoutout messages you submit may be displayed visibly to the artist and the crowd.
If you do not wish to be identified, do not submit a name and do not include identifying information in any message. Once a request appears in the queue, other patrons in the room may see it.
5. Data Sharing
We share your information only in the following cases:
With Stripe: Payment information is shared with Stripe to process transactions. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy.
With artists: When you submit a song request, the artist receives your display name and any contact information you voluntarily provided (email or phone). Artists may use this information to communicate with you about future shows and events.
As required by law: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, or legal process.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill the purposes described in this policy. Transaction records are retained as required for financial reporting and legal compliance. If you are an artist and wish to delete your account, you may contact us and we will remove your data within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal obligations to retain certain records.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit, access controls, authenticated databases, and regular review of our practices. No security program is perfect; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a breach involving your personal information, we will notify you and applicable regulators as required by law.
8. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and browser storage for a small number of specific purposes. We do not use them to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or share their contents.
- Strictly necessary. Keeping you signed in, and access to the site during our closed beta. The Service does not work without these.
- Functional. Remembering short-lived choices while you sign up: whether you are creating an artist or a fan account, which artist you chose to follow, and which partner referred you. These expire on their own, most within the hour.
- Analytics. Measuring which pages and features are used, so we can improve the Service. We use PostHog for this. This cookie is set when you first visit and lasts up to one year.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop you from signing in or reaching gated pages. Blocking the analytics cookie does not affect anything you can do on the Service.
We do not respond to “Do Not Track” signals, because no agreed standard exists for interpreting them.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of marketing communications
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@stringmusic.live.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the rights described above. We have not sold or shared (as those terms are defined under California law) personal information in the preceding twelve months. To exercise your rights, contact support@stringmusic.live. We will verify your request by matching identifying details against information we already hold.
10. Children's Privacy
String accounts, artist and fan alike, are restricted to individuals 18 or older, as set out in Section 4 of our Terms of Service. Requesting a song without an account does not carry an age requirement. The Service as a whole is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@stringmusic.live.
11. SMS & Marketing Communications
If you provide a phone number or email address, we use it to send you transactional messages about your own song request (status updates and, if the artist can't play your song, an invitation to pick another). These are part of the Service you requested.
If you separately opt in to marketing, we also use your contact information to send promotional messages from String and its partners (offers, event news, and updates). When you opt in, we record the contact you provided, the date and time, and the exact wording you agreed to.
How partner messages work: String sends all messages itself. We do not sell your contact information, and we do not hand your phone number to partners for them to text you from their own systems — any partner offers are sent by String on their behalf.
Message frequency: Transactional messages are sent only in response to something you do, such as submitting a song request, verifying your account, or resetting your password, so how many you receive depends entirely on how often you use the Service. If you opt in to marketing, those messages are recurring and the frequency varies. We do not send a fixed number of messages on a set schedule.
Message and data rates may apply. String does not charge you for text messages, but your mobile carrier may, depending on your plan. Reply HELP to any String text for help, or STOP to cancel.
You can opt out of marketing at any time by replying STOP to a text or emailing support@stringmusic.live. Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages needed to fulfill a request you have already made.
12. International Transfers
String operates in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. The data-protection laws of the United States may differ from those of your country. Where required, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate transfer mechanisms.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by other means as appropriate. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
14. Contact
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at support@stringmusic.live.
